The son of the forest
The Son of the Forest presents Hannu Hautala’s long career.
“Hannu Hautala is the protector of Koillismaa’s nature, an author and the grand old man of Finnish nature photography. His firs nature book, Erämetsän elämää (Life in the Primeval
nature), was published in 1968. The populary of the book and the ensuing public financial support enabled him to pursue nature photography full-time. Hautala has published more than 50 books on nature, and they have been translated into nine languages. The Universaty of Oulu awaded Hautala an honorary doctorate in 2002, and he received the State Award for Public Information for his life’s work in 2012. The Son of teh Forest presents Hannu Hautala’s long career, which began in 1966 with a photo of a raven. Hautala selected a single picture from each year of his career for the book and wrote humorous and instructive accounts of the subject and circumstances of each photograph. The book is a biography, a history of nature photography and the story of Finnish canservation, all in one.”
